KANE COUNTY WATER ASSOCIATION

The Kane County Water Association (KCWA) is a non-profit organization for stakeholders interested in protecting the quality and quantity of water in Kane County, Illinois.  The objective of the KCWA is to promote interaction through the exchange of ideas, information, and technology among members and other stakeholders. 

The KCWA was founded by communities of Kane County in the interest of compliance with the new radium in water standards that the Federal EPA established in 1976.  Of special concern was the issue of Radium 226 and 228 in the deep sandstone aquifer utilized by most of the communities of the KCWA.  The KCWA took a leadership role in public education, outreach, and evaluating the technical issues related to the new radium regulation. 

Once comprised of mostly Public Works Directors and City Engineers, the organization has grown and the current membership is representative of public and private sector and includes wastewater, chemists, water superintendents, water operators, engineering consultants, and water works vendors.  Individuals who are willing to volunteer their time and energy to the KCWA operate the organization.
